Screwdriver Stands

Sometimes you just get tired of having stuff laying around the workshop and getting in your way… and just generally looking like a mess. Side benefit of having access to CAD software and a 3D printer: it’s easy to design and print your own storage solution.

In my classroom I have several Warrior electric screwdrivers from Harbor Freight, and I got annoyed with laying them down on the counter to charge. It’s cluttering and frustrating, so I designed and printed some stands that link together.

If you want to make your own, you can find them at the link below.

Updates: 2/28/24

Wow. It’s been quite a while and a crazy ride since I last posted here. To summarize without getting too detailed:
My previous job got insane. Did not have as much time for hobbies. The schedule was unpredictable.

I did, however, get to take at least some classes at the makerspace and make some minor things.

Moved and took a new job… weirdly not related to the craziness of the previous job.

I currently run a makerspace at a school… so that has been crazy in it’s own right, but it has it’s fun points. I have a decent(ish) 3D printer that I can run behind my desk all the time, I organize the parts and tools, and I teach kids to build robots (and other things). It’s been stressful… but fulfilling… at least once I got through my first semester and got the disaster of a room organized. Had to sort and organize thousands of robot parts, and figure out what things the previous teacher did or did not have for the classroom.

So… that’s the summary without getting too personal. I get to share my love of Making with the next generation… and putter around a classroom/workshop, sorting, organizing, tinkering, and learning with the materials available. I print a lot of models that I think are demonstrative of what 3D printing can do, as well as some signage to catch the eyes and some small objects related to franchises the kids are familiar with to make the room have more things they can immediately point to and find some point of contact with.

There is a llama piñata from a certain game on the printer right now.

I’d considered making some Five Nights at Freddy’s related things due to it’s popularity and the students’ familiarity with the franchise and it’s robotics… but that just doesn’t hit right… being an adult teacher of robotics to a bunch of kids…

At least I’m not an Afton.

Updates 05/29/23

I’ve been busy busy busy with my general life, and realize I haven’t updated in a while. Here’s some updates on things since my last post:

I’ve been working on getting sign-offs at the local makerspace. Here’s what I’ve gotten through so far:

  • Laser Cutters
  • FDM Printers (I’ve been using my own for years, but you still have to get the signoffs from the facility.
  • Blacksmithing Safety
  • Woodworking shop yellow tools
  • Mixed Media

Upcoming class:

  • Metalshop Safety

Entry 8

Distribute useful items you find to where they will do the party the most good. Enhance strengths and/or cover weaknesses.

We gave Wilhelm the boots of soft landings. Now his frequent falls have gone from being a source of concern to a source of comedy.

Entry 7

Don’t let your loot be your death. Carry only what you can move with. Bulky and/or heavy items need to be easy to drop or remove.

Stu, quit tying stuff to yourself with tight knots, or we might not be able to pull you up when you stumble off a cliff again.
