I’ve made enough of these at this point that I feel like I should collect them on a page.
For those who don’t know, cyberdeck is a term that was coined by William Gibson in his cyberpunk genre-defining book, Neuromancer. It’s a portable computer (often highly customized) that is used for accessing their version of the internet (the matrix, not to be confused with the movies), often used by hackers, known as netrunners, deckers, or other similar terms.
For the purposes of hobbyists nowadays, a cyberdeck is a custom built portable computer, usually built around a single board computer (SBC) such as a Raspberry Pi. The development of the Raspberry Pi has been a huge factor in the development of this niche hobby.
